Jill Hannaford

Senior Associate

Jill Hannaford is a highly experienced facilitator and communicator who brings unique professional skills and experience to Xplore.  Jill has worked for over twenty years in the areas of community planning, consultation and project management and her specialisation and expertise lie in public participation.  Through her academic qualifications (BSc and MURP) and broad business experience in town and social planning, Jill has become a leading community engagement and participation practitioner.

Jill was a founding member of the International Association for Public Participation Australasian Chapter and is a past member of the International Board.  She has spoken at numerous conferences and seminars on effective communication and the need to explain technical information in a way that is easy to understand without losing technical accuracy.

Jill has worked with a wide range of organisations including senior levels of Government, large corporations and groups from the not for profit sector. Her passion is people and communication.  Jill has worked with GHD, a large international multi-disciplinary professional services firm for nearly 20 years.  She oversees the stakeholder engagement sector of the business and in particular provides mentoring and guidance for staff around community consultation. She was instrumental in changing the way that GHD, originally an engineering consultancy, interacted with the community and stakeholders to achieve positive outcomes.  She has led some of the first teams to audit the effectiveness of community relations programs.

She is actively involved in a number of professional associations and is an experienced presenter and has written a number of articles about community issues.  She works as a facilitator for controversial infrastructure/planning projects and is a senior associate with Xplore for Success.  Jill combines this with her involvement in the Aunties and Uncles charity and the Prader Willi Syndrome Association. Jill has four young children who keep her young at heart and continue to challenge her ability to communicate effectively.
